Aqua Science Water Wisdom · Tank care

A simple layer. A cleaner finish.

Beads of water on your filtration tank can turn into wet spots on the cellar floor. A properly fitted neoprene sweat jacket helps reduce condensation while giving your water treatment system a neat, finished appearance.

Your filtration system works hard to improve your water. A tank jacket is a practical, affordable finishing touch for homeowners who want their equipment—and the space around it—to look well cared for.

Three reasons to dress up your tank

Help reduce sweating

An insulating barrier helps limit condensation when cold tank surfaces meet warm, humid air.

Give the system a finished look

A snug cover tidies the appearance of a compatible softener or filtration tank.

Remove, wash and reuse

The zippered design makes the jacket removable for cleaning and routine checks beneath it.

Why do filtration tanks sweat?

Think of a cold glass of water on a humid summer day. Moisture in the surrounding air collects on its cold surface. The same thing can happen when cold water fills a filtration tank in a warm, humid basement.

A neoprene jacket places an insulating barrier between the tank and the surrounding air, helping reduce condensation and the dripping it causes. Covering cold surfaces with insulation is one of the measures in EPA’s moisture-control guidance.

Less tank sweating can mean fewer wet spots to wipe up around your equipment. Reducing unwanted moisture also helps make conditions less favorable for mold and mildew.

The same type of material used in wetsuits

Neoprene is the flexible, insulating material used in many diving wetsuits. Its gas-filled cells slow heat transfer, making it useful where an insulating layer is needed. PADI’s wetsuit guide explains how closed-cell neoprene provides insulation.

Around a filtration tank, neoprene also provides a snug, attractive covering. When the surrounding temperature drops, the insulating layer can help slow heat loss.

Choose the fit, then zip it on

Aqua Science’s zippered jackets wrap around compatible water softener and filter tanks and close with a full-length zipper. They can be fitted to an existing system without disconnecting the plumbing or removing the control valve.

Choose the jacket that matches your tank’s diameter and height. The 12 × 52 tank jacket and 10 × 54 tank jacket are examples of size-specific covers; check your tank before ordering.

Before you choose a jacket

  • Confirm your tank’s diameter and height.
  • Match those dimensions to the jacket’s product listing.
  • Check that the cover fits around the tank without interfering with the valve or plumbing.
  • Check for leaks and start with a clean, dry tank.
  • Ask Aqua Science for help if you are unsure which cover fits.

Washable, reusable and easy to check

These jackets are machine washable and can be removed for cleaning and used again. Follow the care instructions and allow the cover to dry thoroughly before reinstalling it over a clean, dry tank.

Periodically look beneath the jacket for moisture or leaks. Inspect the zipper and material for wear so the cover remains easy to remove and fits as intended.

Quick questions

Will a jacket stop every drip?

It can help reduce condensation, but it is not a guarantee of a dry floor and will not fix a leaking tank or connection. Continue to check for moisture beneath the cover.

Do I have to disconnect the system?

The compatible zippered jackets described here wrap around an installed tank, so you do not need to remove the control valve or plumbing to fit them.

Can I rely on it for freeze protection?

No. The cover adds insulation, but the tank, valve and plumbing still need appropriate protection from freezing conditions.

Find the right fit
