WATER WISDOM · CONSTANT PRESSURE
For a compatible, properly designed well system, a Cycle Stop Valve can help steady the pressure during sustained water use and reduce repeated pump starts.
You are enjoying a shower when someone opens another faucet and the pressure changes. Or you are watering the lawn and hear the well pump switching on and off repeatedly. These are familiar frustrations in many homes with private wells.
A Cycle Stop Valve is one option to discuss when evaluating these symptoms. Aqua Science offers individual valves and pressure-tank packages, with selection based on the pump and the needs of the complete system.
How does a Cycle Stop Valve work?
In a conventional pressure-switch system, the pump starts at the lower pressure setting and stops at the upper setting. During extended water use, the tank may repeatedly empty and refill, causing the pump to cycle.
A Cycle Stop Valve is a mechanical control that regulates flow to match changing demand. During sustained use within the valve's control range, it helps the pump run continuously instead of repeatedly starting and stopping. When water use ends, a small flow continues into the pressure tank until the pressure switch turns the pump off.
The CSV1A has an approximately 1 GPM minimum bypass. Constant-pressure operation depends on demand and the pump's available capacity; very small demands may still lead to cycling. If demand exceeds what the pump can deliver at the selected pressure, the valve cannot create the missing capacity. See the manufacturer's operating explanation.
Why homeowners consider this type of control
More consistent pressure
Steadier pressure can make showering, washing dishes and irrigation more comfortable during sustained demand. Results depend on correct sizing and the pump's performance.
Fewer starts and stops
Reducing repeated cycling can reduce wear associated with frequent starts. Actual pump life still depends on installation, water conditions, equipment condition and use.
A smaller tank may be possible
A correctly designed system can often use a smaller pressure tank than a conventional arrangement. It still needs an appropriate tank and settings that provide the required pump run time.
Meet the stainless steel CSV1A
The CSV1A is one option available through Aqua Science. Its listed specifications include:
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Construction | Stainless steel |
| Flow range | 1–25 gallons per minute |
| Pressure adjustment range | 15–150 PSI |
| Main connections | 1-inch female NPT and 1¼-inch male NPT |
These are equipment ranges, not recommended household settings or a promise that your pump can deliver every flow and pressure combination. Confirm current specifications and installation requirements for the exact model.
Start by understanding the cause of the problem
Fluctuating pressure can have several causes. An improperly charged or failed tank, restricted filter, leak, limited well production or worn pump can affect performance. A control valve should not be used to cover up an unresolved system problem.
When asking for help, have your pump model, current pressure settings, pressure-tank size and typical water use available. Mention any recent changes, loss of prime, unusual noises or periods when the well runs short of water.
