Birm is a granular filter media used to reduce dissolved iron and manganese from raw water supplies. This system pairs Birm media with an Aqua Science Eco Advanced Plus AIO OCS digital control valve and is designed for efficient, economical filtration with periodic backwashing instead of chemical regeneration.
Birm acts as an insoluble catalyst that enhances the reaction between dissolved oxygen and iron compounds so precipitated material can be filtered and removed by backwashing. It is not consumed during iron removal, which helps reduce ongoing maintenance needs.
This system includes an Aqua Science digital control valve, 9x48 fiberglass mineral tank, 1 inch by-pass, 1 cubic foot of Birm, 1 sleeve of gravel, 1.05 inch riser tube, funnel, and cap. Birm works at maximum efficiency with pH levels of 7.2 or greater.
