Birm®: The Ultimate Solution for Iron & Manganese Removal

Birm® is a highly efficient and cost-effective filtration media designed to remove dissolved iron and manganese from water supplies. Whether you are dealing with unpleasant water discoloration, metallic taste, or damage to plumbing fixtures, Birm® provides a reliable and sustainable solution.

Why Choose Birm®?

Key Benefits

  • Exceptional Filtration Efficiency: Enhances oxidation of iron and manganese, delivering crystal-clear water.
  • Cost-Effective: No need for chemical regeneration, reducing operational costs.
  • Eco-Friendly: Operates without chemicals, ensuring sustainability.
  • Low Maintenance: Requires only periodic backwashing.
  • Versatile Application: Suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial systems.
  • Lightweight Design: Easier installation and efficient performance.

How Does Birm® Work?

Birm® acts as an insoluble catalyst to enhance the reaction between dissolved oxygen and soluble iron or manganese compounds. This process precipitates contaminants into easily filtered particles, ensuring clean, safe water.

Limitations of Birm®

To achieve optimal results, ensure the following:

  • Water pH is at least 6.8 for iron removal and between 8.0–9.0 for manganese removal.
  • Avoid water containing oil, hydrogen sulfide, or excessive organic matter.
  • Chlorination levels must remain minimal.
Note: Birm® works best when dissolved oxygen levels are sufficient and contaminants do not exceed recommended levels.

Applications

  • Residential well water systems
  • Municipal water treatment plants
  • Industrial water filtration
Disclaimer: Due to FedEx limitations, orders must be less than 150 lbs. You may place multiple orders, and they will be combined before shipping.

Birm is a filtration media used to remove dissolved iron and manganese from raw water supplies. It may be used in gravity fed or pressurized water treatment systems and acts as an insoluble catalyst to enhance the reaction between dissolved oxygen and iron compounds so precipitated material can be filtered. Birm does not require chemical regeneration and is maintained with periodic backwashing.

Yes. The product information states the water should contain no oil, and organic matter should not exceed 4-5 ppm.
What pH is listed for manganese removal?
For manganese removal, the product information states the water should have a pH of 8.0 to 9.0 for best results.

Installation Brief

Installing Birm media requires confirming that the incoming water meets the operating conditions listed for iron or manganese removal.

  1. Verify the application water meets the stated conditions, including pH and dissolved oxygen requirements.
  2. Confirm hydrogen sulfide has been removed prior to the Birm filter and that the water contains no oil.
  3. Load the Birm media into a gravity fed or pressurized treatment system according to the equipment manufacturer's media loading procedure.
  4. Place the system into operation and use periodic backwashing to clean the media bed.
