Jet Pumps from Goulds and Shakti

Jet Pumps specifically designed for Homes, Cottages, and Irrigation systems.  Jet pumps are mounted above the well, either in the home or in a well house, and draw the water up from the well through suction.  Jet pumps create suction by spinning an impeller.  The impeller moves the water from the well through a narrow jet mounted in the pump.  This constriction at the jet cause the speed of the wate to increase much like a garden hose nozzle.  As the water leaves the jet, a partial vacuum is created that sucks the water from the well.  Behind the jet is a venturi that slows the water down and increases pressure.  Jet pumps generally require that they are primed since the pump uses water to draw water.  A check valve should be installed in the feed line to the pump to keep the water from draining back to the well.

Jet Pumps are mounted above ground and are non-submersible. They are typically used to draw water from a well through a suction pipe in order to provide potable water or domestic water pressure. Other common applications (though certainly not limited to) include light commercial or residential irrigation and supplying water for sprinkler systems. Jet Pumps are typically more popular in warmer climates or areas with high water tables.
